Counseling for Anxiety and Stress

Are you suffering from too much stress in your life? Is your work performance or career failing because of your
anxiety? Many daily instances of stress and worry are normal and unavoidable, but when anxiety and irritability begin affecting your relationships and work, it is important that you take action to address it.  How should one address anxiety, irritability, and stress?

We believe that anxiety and worry are caution lights that indicate we need to take action. So, we say wel
come it and pay attention to what is in need of care and change. Anxiety is telling us something we need to explore. While we do want to have working strategies that keep us mentally and physically healthy, we don't want to get rid of our anxiety before we learn what it may be trying to teach us. Efforts to “manage” stress, while important, may reduce symptoms but they may never resolve the core issues that spawn your anxiety in the first place.

Self-help resources alone will not always bring about permanent changes; consequently, the same patterns keep emerging and repeating the same results over and over. By taking the step of talking with us about your anxiety and stress, we will partner to strengthen your psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual resources to increase your resiliency to anxiety. At the same time, we will take a look at what potential opportunities may exist as a result of your stress that can be an avenue to an improved way of living and a happier life. You will find yourself more confident to make decisions and more focused and available in your most important relationships.

Counseling for Despair and Depression

These words belong to author, William Styron, and describe his first episode of major depression.

This experience belongs to millions.

For Styron, it began with gnawing perception that all was not right in his world. Gradually it evolved into full-blown pain, at once unfocused and unbearable, he says. For others, depression descends like a fog. They withdraw, become fatigued, sleep too little (or too much), avoid food (or overeat), lose interest in friends, family, life itself. Their voices and expression flatten. In late stages of the disease they take on what psychiatrist Peter Kramer, author of Against Depression, calls a “typical look, blank stare, downcast eyes, knitted brow. Head supported by a hand, or face masked by one."

Between 18 and 20 million Americans—17% of the population—suffer from depression, women more than men. Worldwide, depressive illnesses account for 75 to 85 percent of all suicides. Depression is one of the top five leading causes of disability on our planet. “Depression destroys families. It ruins careers. It ages patients prematurely,” Kramer writes. “Depression is debilitating, progressive and relentless in its downhill course, as tough and worthy an opponent as any a doctor might choose to combat.”

Our Model of Treatment

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) – With solution-focused therapy, most individuals are restored to hope within the very first session or two. Because the focus is more on a cs desired solution, rather than the dreaded problem, they are encouraged to consider their current resources, strengths and possible solutions that move toward beating depression.

Groups Available: Substance Abuse, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Positive Parenting
